Auto Policy Definitions
Liability Coverage: There are two types of liability coverage - coverage for Bodily Injury and coverage for Personal Property. Texas requires you to carry a minimum amount of liability coverage, or post a bond, to register your vehicle or obtain a driver's license. If you’re legally responsible, or “liable” for damages, Liability coverage helps pay for them.
Legally required for drivers in almost every state including Texas, Liability coverage includes Bodily Injury and Property Damage coverage, which pays for someone else's medical expenses, personal injuries, and property damage if you’re at-fault.
Bodily Injury (BI) and Property Damage (PD): Covers your liability for injuries you cause to other people and property damage for which you are at fault. This coverage usually is expressed in a split number.
For example:
100/300/100.
100 is amount in thousands for bodily injury per person.
300 is total limit in thousands your policy pays for bodily injury to two+ people per accident.
100 is the limit in thousands your policy will pay for property damage per accident.
Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist: If your vehicle is hit by someone uninsured or without enough insurance, then you would need Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage. It provides Liability (Bodily Injury and Property Damage) coverage for you, if an uninsured or underinsured motorist is at fault in an accident.
Collision Coverage: If you hit something like another vehicle or a fixed object like a guard rail, lamp post, or telephone pole, Collision Coverage helps pay for the damages to your car. Let us help you decide the deductible that fits you.
Comprehensive Coverage: Sometimes called “Other Than Collision” this covers losses from things like vandalism, riots, floods, hail, fire, animal collisions, and theft to your car. This has a deductible, so consult us about which deductible meets your needs.
Medical Payments: If you or anyone in your car is hurt in an accident, Medical Coverage can pay for their medical expenses.
Personal Injury Protection (PIP): PIP is similar to Medical Payments coverage, but it covers a wider range of costs like rehabilitation expenses, work loss, and funeral costs.
